How we calculate your estimate

Transparent methodology, units, and limitations (quick estimate).

1) We collect activity data

You enter annual usage such as electricity (kWh), gas (kWh), vehicle distance (miles/km), and flight activity. The calculator uses your inputs only to compute a result.

2) We apply standard emission factors

For each category we multiply your activity data by a published emission factor (for example, kgCO₂e per kWh or per km). This produces an estimate in kgCO₂e.

Emissions (kgCO₂e) = Activity × Emission factor

Total (tCO₂e/year) = Σ category emissions ÷ 1000

3) We show totals and breakdown

We convert kgCO₂e to tonnes (tCO₂e) and sum categories to show your total footprint. Category percentages are calculated as each category’s share of the total.

What “CO₂e” means

CO₂e stands for “carbon dioxide equivalent” — a standard way to express different greenhouse gases in one comparable unit.

Important limitations

  • This is a guidance estimate — not an ISO certification, audit, or verified emissions report.
  • We use average factors; results may differ from supplier-specific or market-based reporting.
  • This tool is for quick understanding and early planning, not formal Scope 1–3 accounting.
